BACK TO REHAB
As of late last night, Dave is finally back on the rehab floor. Yeah! What a crazy (or maybe I should say terrible) few weeks this has been. I’m calling it the dark detour through ICU. And now we’re back on the main road home, just a little further behind where we were. We’ll get there. Dave is very weak and still feels quite sick, but they want to get him home so to rehab we go. We have a lot to work on, but he is such a hard worker. He is determined to get stronger and get home. What a huge impression he is making on these therapists, doctors, nurses, and care partners.
Just yesterday I was going over Dave’s med list with a social worker and she asked me if an antidepressant was included on the list. I said, “No, he’s not depressed. He’s tired, he’s overwhelmed, he’s sick, and he’s sad; but he’s not depressed.” I wish I had a picture of the expression on her face. She couldn’t believe that someone who has been through everything he’s been through isn’t taking an antidepressant. She said, “He’s an amazing man.” I agreed.
Please pray for his strength to return… quickly, God, please?!
Please pray that the fevers and viruses will stay away so he can do the work he needs to do.
Please pray for a spiritual hedge of protection against these viruses to surround him.
Please pray for emotional determination and patience.
Please pray that the leukemia stays away.
And maybe pray for some supernatural strength while you’re at it.
We need your prayers and we value them greatly. Thank you to those of you who have sent encouraging notes and cards, reminders of your love, concern, and diligent prayers. They mean so much when all you are seeing is the four bleak walls of a hospital room.
One friend sent such a great verse the other day:
“Cling tightly to the Lord your God as you have done until now.” Joshua 23:8
That verse and that reminder helped us so much on that day. We have definitely clung tightly to our God until now, but we are tired. We are weak. Frankly, there are days we are discouraged. This is hard. But we are clinging. We are clinging tightly. We are clinging tightly to the Lord our God. He is the only One bigger than our current circumstances. The only One who can truly make a difference. The only One who can get us through this.
And He is enough…
